Let's start by saying that we all have those days where we just want to stay in our pj's all day and spend some quality time with our couch, bed or pug. There's no doubt in my mind that even Beyonce does that!

But when we come out of hibernation it's suddenly, "See you next December, track pants!"
So when you style your outfit, your hair is on point, and you're going out to your BFF's rooftop party... What message is your look sending?
Defining flirty yet sophisticated

Flirty yet sophisticated can speak to all ages. Whether you're celebrating you're a 2015 Prom Girl, celebrating your 19th birthday, or the Sex and the City-type bachelorette you'll be doing yourself a favour to keep your look flirty yet sophisticated. Flirty is the element of being playful and fun, and sophisticated adds a touch of ladylike class... and this is the recipe for dressing well all throughout your years!

The article, How Stylists Prep Teen Starlets For The Red Carpet (Fashionista.com), highlights the importance of dressing well, specifically on the red carpet. Given that the image you project there is magnified at large to the public, stylists put a lot of work into creating the perfect looks. Stylist Tara Swennen who works with young stars, explains that it's about finding a balance between 'cute' and 'mature'. Up and coming young stars will not be viewed well if seen as too sexy for their age.

"For some starlets, fame comes early - and so do red carpet appearances. Before their 18th birthdays, actresses like Emma Watson (now 25), Chloe Moretz (18), Hailee Steinfeld (18), Elle Fanning (17) and Kiernan Shipka (15) began regularly topping best dressed lists"

That being said, are we aiming to top the red carpet best dressed lists? Maybe... But dressing well comes down to not only dressing age appropriately, but dressing tastefully, stylishly and most importantly dressing for YOU!

You may not have a celebrity stylist at your side each morning, but you can DIY and style your own look by following these steps:

♥ Ask yourself what do you feel confident in? Be adventurous and try on different fits and colours. You might surprise yourself!

♥ Dress for your body type and pick pieces for your wardrobe that fit you properly.

♥  If you're shopping at a boutique, you can always tell the in store stylists what you're looking for and what you like, then see what they suggest for you.

♥  Use the 3 piece rule for styling your outfit;
    (1. Dress 2. Earrings 3. Clutch... 1. Blouse 2. Jeans 3. Scarf / Leather Jacket etc.)

♥ Unless you're a pro at styling already - Keep it simple. Red carpet looks are never over accessorized.
